MFG Construction’s Passive Fire Division Safeguards Historic Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham

MFG Construction’s Passive Fire Protection team has been appointed to carry out vital fire safety inspections and upgrades at the historic Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham – one of the UK’s most treasured cultural landmarks.

Originally opened in 1891 and designed by renowned theatre architect Frank Matcham, the Everyman is celebrated as the oldest surviving working Matcham auditorium.

With its ornate rococo and baroque interiors, the Grade II–listed building remains a centrepiece of Cheltenham’s cultural life, hosting a vibrant programme of theatre, opera, comedy and live performance.MFG’s work is being delivered across two carefully planned phases to ensure safety enhancements are carried out in harmony with the theatre’s busy event schedule.

Phase One: The Passive Fire Division inspected 120 doors throughout the theatre and carried out the replacement of four doors to meet modern fire safety standards.

Phase Two: Scheduled for November 2025, the team will return to complete the programme of works, fitting around the theatre’s performances to minimise disruption.
