MFG Passive Fire Protection: repair first, replace only if necessary

Too many fire door inspections end with a long list of failures and a quote to replace the lot, according to MFG Passive Fire Protection, which is setting out a different approach across its offices in Widnes, Carlisle, Birmingham and Edinburgh.

The company, part of MFG Construction, repairs fire doors wherever they can be brought back to standard under BS 8214, the British Standard for fire door installation and maintenance. Only when a door cannot be saved does it recommend a replacement, which is then fitted and certified.

Adam Langan, Technical Fire Safety Manager at MFG Passive Fire Protection, said: “An inspection should tell you where you stand. It shouldn’t be a sales pitch. If a door can be repaired, we repair it. If it can’t, we’ll tell you straight and certify the replacement. Building owners deserve to know they’re paying for what they need, nothing more.”

The company’s work covers fire door inspections, remedial works, certified installations, compartmentation surveys and fire stopping. It holds BM TRADA third-party accreditation, meaning its work is independently checked against recognised standards.
