Care and Education sectors get the full MFG Passive Fire Treatment

MFG Passive Fire Protection has completed two recent fire door remedial projects, working across a care home setting and a school in Tipton to bring fire door compliance up to standard.

At the care home, MFG's engineers carried out intumescent and cold smoke seal replacements, gap adjustments assessed against BS 8214 remedial tolerances, and full door leaf replacement on units that could not be brought back to compliance through repair alone.

At the school in Tipton, the team replaced intumescent fire and smoke seals, adjusted door gaps to meet required tolerances, and installed a new drop-down seal — each stage of the work logged through MFG's Golden Thread digital record system, giving the client a certified, location-tagged record of every door treated.

Adam Langan, Technical Fire Safety Manager at MFG Passive Fire Protection, said:

"Fire doors in a school or a care home aren't just compliance items, they're protecting the people who can least afford for them to fail. Our job is to make sure every seal, every gap, every hinge is doing exactly what it's meant to do — not to find an excuse to sell a new door. Repair first, replace only when it's genuinely necessary. That's not a slogan, it's how we assess every single door we touch."

Both projects reflect MFG Passive Fire Protection's BM TRADA third-party accredited approach to compliance, with the company continuing to work across care, education, transport and commercial sectors from its Widnes head office and Carlisle regional base.
