MFG Facilities Management called in to deliver important Government security job

When a government client in Edinburgh needed urgent reactive maintenance on a failed automatic door, two suppliers had already tried and failed to fix it. MFG Construction's Scotland team were called in. The fault was resolved the same day.

The scope was clear. Strip out and replace a failed DFA 127 motor arm operator on the master leaf of an automatic door on the third floor, south side lift area. In a high-security government environment, a malfunctioning entrance system isn't a minor inconvenience. Access control, building security and the movement of staff and visitors all depend on it working correctly.

The additional complexity was the access control configuration. The replacement operator needed to be correctly parameterised to allow manual operation during the closing cycle - a critical requirement to prevent the forced-use damage that had contributed to the original failure.

MFG's operative attended site, completed a full risk review and carried out the like-for-like replacement. The door was configured for access control, tested over multiple cycles and signed off by the client. Works commenced at 09:48 and were completed by 12:36, the fault resolved in under three hours.

Where previous suppliers had stopped at the repair, MFG went further. Before leaving site, the team proposed a critical spares solution, ensuring key components are held in readiness for any future reactive requirements. Faster resolution time. No scrambling for parts. No delays.

Not just fixing the problem. Thinking beyond it.

Matthew Pickles, Head of Business Development at MFG FM, said: "The client had already been let down twice before we were called in. We attended, diagnosed the issue and had the door fully operational within a single visit. That's the standard we hold ourselves to on every reactive callout, regardless of location or complexity."
