CASE STUDY
Fire Door Compliance Programme
Client: Thor Fire
Location: Manufacturing Facility in Lancashire
Project Duration: December 2025 - January 2026
Division: MFG Construction - Passive Fire Protection
The Challenge
A manufacturing facility required comprehensive fire door remedial works to bring their fire doors up to regulatory compliance standards. Following an initial fire door inspection report, 52 doors across the facility were identified as requiring urgent maintenance or replacement to ensure life safety and regulatory compliance.
The project presented several challenges:
Multiple door locations across a working manufacturing facility
Varying degrees of non-compliance, from minor adjustments to full door set replacements
Doors with incorrect gaps, damaged seals, dropped hinges, and missing or incorrectly fitted closers
Several doors beyond economic repair requiring complete replacement
Asbestos-affected areas requiring specialist assessment
Work needed to be completed with minimal disruption to ongoing operations
Our Solution
MFG Construction's Passive Fire Protection mobilised a specialist team led by experienced operatives Matthew McDermott and Mark Chambers. Working systematically through the facility from December 2025 to January 2026, the team completed comprehensive remedial works including:
Project Management Excellence:
The Results
MFG Construction's Passive Fire Protection division successfully assessed and remediated all 52 doors across the manufacturing facility, achieving full compliance for all repairable door sets.
Clear, professional recommendations were provided for doors identified as being beyond economic repair, ensuring the client had complete visibility of their fire safety status. The project was completed with zero safety incidents throughout the entire duration, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to health and safety standards.
Complete documentation was delivered for every door, including maintenance labels, detailed material records, and comprehensive photographic evidence, providing full traceability and compliance records for future audits.
Client Feedback
Colleagues from our client expressed satisfaction with the thoroughness and professionalism demonstrated throughout the project by the team. The client particularly appreciated the detailed documentation and transparency maintained throughout the process, which gave them complete confidence in the works being carried out. This was largely thanks to our internal system, One Trace.
Our team's identification of additional compliance issues that had been missed in the original inspection report demonstrated the value of working with experienced fire safety specialists who go beyond simply following a checklist. This wasn’t a reflection on the client, it’s a reflection on the capability of our team and this division of MFG.
The ability to work safely and efficiently within a live manufacturing environment, with minimal disruption to operations, was highlighted as a key strength of the MFG approach.
The client also commended the clear communication provided regarding doors that were beyond economic repair, appreciating the honest assessment rather than attempting unnecessary remedial works. The quality of workmanship and attention to detail throughout every aspect of the project reinforced their decision to work with MFG Construction. As a result of the project's success, the client has confirmed they will be using MFG Construction's Passive Fire Protection division for all future fire safety compliance works, cementing a long-term partnership built on trust, quality, and professional delivery.
What we said:
Adam Langan, MFG’s Technical Fire Safety Manager, said: “This project was a great example of the standards we set within our Passive Fire Protection division. From the outset, our focus was on delivering the works thoroughly and transparently, ensuring the client had complete confidence in both the process and the outcome.
“Through detailed inspections and documentation, our team identified additional compliance issues that had been missed in the original report. That level of diligence is exactly why experienced fire safety specialists add real value. It’s about more than simply working through a checklist.
“Delivering the works safely and efficiently within a live manufacturing environment, while keeping disruption to an absolute minimum, was critical. Clear communication was also key, particularly when advising on doors that were beyond economic repair. We believe in being honest and practical, rather than carrying out unnecessary remedial works.
The quality of workmanship and attention to detail throughout the project reflects the approach we take on every scheme. Off the back of this project, the client has confirmed they will be working with MFG Construction’s Passive Fire Protection division for all future fire safety compliance works, reinforcing a long-term partnership built on trust and professional delivery.”
