The Challenge

MFG Construction were appointed to carry out flooring and decoration renewals across the main hallway and staff male and female toilet facilities at Glasgow Airport's Border Control offices.

The scope required a complete refresh of all wall surfaces, flooring, woodwork and bathroom finishes — delivered within a secure, operational airport environment. Staff vacated the area for the duration of the programme, placing clear pressure on sequencing, programme management and delivery pace.

Works needed to be completed to a high decorative standard with no snags, no overrun and full client sign-off on completion. From day one, there was no margin for disruption.

Our Solution

MFG mobilised a skilled multi-trade team to deliver the full scope across an eight-day programme — from uplift of the existing flooring through to final completion and handover.

All wall surfaces were prepared with filler where required, allowed to dry and sanded to a clean finish before being completed in Dulux white vinyl matt throughout. Woodwork was prepared and reglossed in Dulux oil-based pure white gloss. Bathroom upstands were finished in a multi-surface satin black paint, providing a clean, durable contrast finish across the welfare facilities.

All flooring was completed by CDF. Subfloor preparation and screeding was carried out to ensure a smooth, level finish before commercial vinyl — matched to the existing kitchen specification — was laid, glued and welded throughout. All edges and junctions were sealed with clear silicone on completion.

Where new flooring thicknesses required it, all doors were removed, cut down to allow free swing without contact, and rehung with kick plates removed, refitted and checked. Every door was tested before sign-off.

Works were completed safely and efficiently, with full client approval and sign-off on completion.

The Result

An eight-day turnaround in a live, secure airport environment — full scope delivered, zero overrun, client signed off on completion.

What we said

Stephen Price, Projects Director, said:

"This Airport was a project that required precision from the outset. Working within a secure environment, with staff cleared and a strict eight-day programme in place, there was no room for anything other than a clean, well-sequenced delivery. The team executed the full scope: flooring, decoration, doors and all finishes, safely, efficiently and to the standard the client expected. Sign-off on completion said everything."
