Project Overview
Refit and Refurb at Dewsbury Railway Station

Project Highlights
Listed Building Expertise - Understanding regulatory constraints and working within them intelligently
Multi-Trade Coordination – M&E, fit-out, fire safety, and decoration delivered as a managed package
Programme Management – Delivering a complex scope within a compressed six-week timeline
Quality of Finish – A contemporary workplace that respects the building's Grade II heritage status
Transpennine Express needed to bring their Dewsbury Railway Station offices into the modern era. The building, a structure with considerable heritage, required comprehensive internal refurbishment to create an office environment that would bring staff back to the hub with pride.
The complexity lay in balancing modern functionality with listed building constraints. Every material choice, every fixture, every structural decision had to respect the building's heritage status. MFG, a company with a long history in this sort of work in the rail sector, were the obvious company of choice after demonstrating their expertise during the tender process.
Standard specifications wouldn't cut it. The team needed to understand what was permissible, what required consent, and how to deliver contemporary office standards within those boundaries.
With staff returning to physical hubs to bolster engagement and office collaboration, the pressure was on to create a workplace worth coming back to - not just functional, but genuinely fit for purpose in 2026.
Our Solution
MFG Construction mobilised a skilled team to deliver a complete internal transformation within the Grade II listed parameters. The scope required careful coordination across multiple trades and close liaison with heritage considerations.
The Results
All works completed within the six-week programme, on budget, and to the full satisfaction of Transpennine Express. The building has been transformed into a workplace that staff genuinely want to return to.
The heritage integrity is intact. The functionality is modern. The message is clear from the client: this organisation invested in bringing people back properly.
What they said
“Projects like this demonstrate real understanding. Delivering a complete office refurbishment inside an old building on a compressed six-week programme requires more than just trade skills, it requires strategic thinking and a real level of expertise and MFG brought that here. We’ve worked with them before, so we know the standards they hit in this sector. That gives you a certain level of confidence, even before the work gets underway. The MFG team got it done without any issues, and our staff now have an office to be proud of."
Brad Gallagher, Property Project Manager, Transpennine Express
“This type of work is very typical what we deliver in the rail sector. We know Transpenine Express well, we understand their needs and high standards and it’s up to us to deliver them in a tight programme.
“The quality of the office environment sends a message. MFG understood that this wasn't just about ticking boxes, it was about creating a space people would want to work in. The team delivered exactly that.
